Suirside FC 0-2 Old Bridge FC

TSDL SECOND DIVISION

Suirside FC 0
Old Bridge FC 2

We achieved a well deserved victory in our latest Division 2 league encounter held in Grange this morning. From the outset we applied pressure and playing some good football we got a foothold and the chances started to arrive. Dave Garrett had a half chance from a Dylan Guiry flick on and in the 18th minute Dylan this time went close with a header after good work from Declan Nee and Niko Ciesnik.  5 minutes later Dave Garrett broke into the opposing box and was fouled by the keeper which resulted in a penalty which Jake Mulcahy dispatched with aplomb.  Shortly afterwards Dylan Guiry went close again with a header from  Declan Nee cross. In the next move Roy Nugent was just wide with a thunderous effort. On 37 minutes Jake Mulcahy went close with a long range shot and on the stroke of half time a Declan Nee shot drifted the wrong side of the post. HT 0-1.

In the first minute of the second period Guiry went close again from a Dave Garrett cross. Guiry and Garrett combined again for a Jake Mulcahy shot and the same player had another effort just wide in the 50th minute.  With all our efforts we were still only 1 up and Suirside began what was a purple patch for them but our defence of Emmet Fahey, Ciaràn Walsh,  Shane Egan and Luke O'Donnell stood firm and dealt superbly with the Suirside pressure although Peter Carroll was called on to make two good saves. Jack Fahey and Adam Johnson were introduced and their impact was immediate when Fahey shot over from just inside the box. In the 84th minute an Adam Johnson shot which was seemed certain to hit the net was superbly saved by the Suirside keeper. Our nerves were finally settled when Dave Garret found the net with an audacious header from a great Adam Johnson cross. Great display from all the squad and a vital three points secured.
